'The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love that Lasts' is a must-read for anyone who is looking for ways to ensure a lasting relationship or marriage.  Detailing the euphoric feeling of the "in-love" experience, which on average lasts approximately two-years, 'The 5 Love Languages' teaches how to love after the honeymoon period. Even if you're single, I personally feel you should read this book prior to reading 'The 5 Love Languages: Singles Edition'

It was specifically written to debunk the after-marriage experience.  Whether you read this book in an attempt to repair or in an attempt to plan, its advice is timeless.  Originally written in the early 9o's, the messages and tactics offered in book are fundamental as it relates to the languages of love.

I believe all couples should read 'The 5 Love Languages'. If you're not a couple Chapman has written a series of other books in the series, including 'The 5 Love Languages of Singles', as well as for children, teens, families and even the workplace, along with other love, marriage, family and parenting books.

Gary D. Chapman is a pastor, speaker and author, with an education in Adult Education, Anthropology, Education and the Bible and more.

Just like learning styles, we all have different ways of giving and receiving love. Those of us who learn visually, logically, aurally, socially, verbally, physically, or solitary, also have different love styles.  These love styles are how we give and receive love in various forms of communication. Chapman touches on the various forms in 'The 5 Love Languages'.

Words of affirmation relate to verbal learning styles, acts of service relate to physical learning styles, receiving gifts relate to social learning styles, quality time does the same, while also touching on the physical aspect, as well as the social and visual aspects.  Quality time focuses on a wider reach, touching many of the learning styles.  Physical touch, quite simply, focuses on the intimacy in relationships.

'The 5 Love Languages', equates learning different love languages to a person's primary language and learning foreign languages.  In order to effectively communicate with our partner, we must not only speak our own primary love language, but our partner's primary love language.

Consider asking yourself "how can I express my thoughts in a way that my partner will understand?". Chapman helps you discover your own primary love language as well as your partner's primary love language.

17 years after first reading the book, it's still relevant to me and it's content resonates in my mind and every day actions (well most days).  The timeless advice offered by Gary Chapman, with over 35 years of pastoring and marriage counseling, as well as over 45 years of marriage, bestow a deep level of reliability for readers.  The book has reached so many outside of it's intended audience that Gary Chapman wrote several other books creating 'The 5 Love Languages' series, which tailor to more specific audiences, such as singles, men, parents of teens and young children.

Overall, I highly recommend this book, as well as others in the series. It achieves its purpose of offering forever relevant advice on the subjects of love and relationships.  This particular book is mostly directed towards those who've passed the Honeymoon phase of their marriages.

The series offers a wider variety of options to a more targeted audience from an author with authority on the subjects.  Its content is easy to read and understand, making it a worthwhile investment to improve your future and existing relationships.

All of the books in the series are widely available in libraries, retail book stores and online.  eBook versions are also available for various eReaders, as well as Audiobook versions.  I don't hold on to many books, except those that are classic or offer timeless advice.  The 5 Love Languages does just that and not only do I have my original hard copy, but I also have the eBook.

The only thing I've heard is that some may feel that their primary love language is not one of the 5, although I did not experience this issue myself.

I'd love to hear your thoughts if you've read this, or any of Chapman's other works.
